Efficient horse breeding with Spirius SMS
StudIT is a web-based journal system that makes the work of stud farms and semen stations easier through automated processes for journaling and information management. With features such as SMS notifications, SMS orders for stallions and automatically generated transport sperm journals, StudIT saves time and work for horse owners.
– I grew up on a horse breeding farm and often helped my parents, but I actually studied mechanical engineering. We had 180 mares and all the journals were managed manually with paper, pen and phone calls. My mother spent two to three hours on the phone every day. That’s when I got the idea to make a web-based system, says Johannes Bodin, CEO of StudIT.
– After the first prototype, the system has been growing gradually. In 2018, the system was expanded with functions for stallion owners, which led to rapid growth in the user base. Today, StudIT is used by 55 stations in Sweden and Norway, says Johannes Bodin and continues:
– The system is breed and purpose agnostic. It can be breeding for companion horses, competition horses, amateurs or professionals. You enter your horse in the system and specify which stallion the mare should be covered with. The owner receives SMS notifications about how the veterinary examinations are going and notifications about when the mare is approaching the peak of fertility so that sperm from the stallion can be ordered close to that time. Then, in turn, the stallion owner receives an SMS with the order.
When he started the company, Johannes Bodin was looking for an SMS provider. Spirius got in touch immediately, which was the beginning of a successful collaboration.
– As I recall, it has worked perfectly with Spirius since day one, notes Johannes Bodin.
