Last week, the Spirius Batch SMS API was put to the ultimate test. Spirius recently received a request from a client with a massive requirement: nearly three million individual SMS messages to be distributed globally within a single 24-hour period. The sheer volume was only part of the challenge. The recipients were located in 109 countries, and each SMS had to be sent during local business hours. Millions of messages therefore needed to be managed, scheduled, and distributed across multiple time zones. It became a rigorous capacity test for the Spirius Batch SMS API.
Three API calls instead of three million
With conventional SMS transmission via API, one SMS is typically sent per API call. When volumes reach the millions, this means millions of calls and places heavy demands on both the client's and the provider's systems. The Spirius Batch SMS API is designed to solve exactly this. The client can submit up to one million unique SMS messages in a single transaction, after which the Spirius platform handles the processing and distribution. In this specific campaign, nearly three million SMS messages could be handed over to Spirius through only three API calls – with up to one million SMS messages per transaction. From there, the Spirius platform managed the dispatch and distributed the messages globally according to the client's requirements for local delivery times. The result was a new record for the Spirius Batch SMS API – and, most importantly, a successful campaign for the client.
